In fact, their Facebook page promises that they will take us “…on a journey through a multitude of genres from jazz and blues to the nether regions of electro and drum’n’bass.” Oh Dear. The thing about The Correspondents is that they don’t claim to be a solely electro swing act. Naturally I was delighted at the prospect of reviewing this album and was all set to do some terrible lindy hopping in my kitchen. This was one of the first electro swing songs I had encountered and helped me to fall if not in love, at least in circle-skirt-twirling lust with the whole crazy lot of it.

I came across them some years ago via some crazy electro swing lovin’ cats I know (the cool jazz kind this time) who introduced me to the song Washington Square, which I recommend you all YouTube right now. They have been about since 2007, and yet this is their debut album. The Correspondents are a London-based duo who seem to specialise in… well everything. And if you aren’t sure what electro swing music is, according to Wikipedia it’s: “… a musical genre fusing swing styles with contemporary production techniques…” Now, I know consulting Wikipedia is about as trustworthy as me asking one of the neighbourhood cats (the feline kind, not the cool jazz kind), but defines it thusly: “Well nobody can say precisely… What we do know is that some DJs started adding Swing Jazz to House/ Hip Hop Music a couple of years ago…” Clearly the boundaries for this subgenre of music are rather ill defined at best. I found it a few days ago and have been psyching myself up for some super electro swing fun. Two days later I moved house and the disc was lost. One Thursday in June, I went to a Sprout Editorial Meeting wherein I volunteered to do this review. It is unacceptable but this is how it happened. *Cue gathering of pitchforks and lighting of torches… the fire kind* The first thing I have to do is apologise for the massive delay in writing this article, and I will explain the reason why said delay occurred right… now.
